Sustees

After finding ourselves working closely throughout the late stages of Professional Skills and Enterprise, Myself, Richard, Chantel and Jo decided to attend the Sustees Synopsis together.I personally found the Sustees event very interesting, It highlighted just how easily sustainability can be incorporated into everyday life. Listening to qualified architects talking about housing and how to create and redevelop sustainable social housing was an area I found very appealing as I have recently completed a proposal for the regeneration of Victorian terraces; I was slightly disappointed that the synopsis took place so late in to course as the Sustees event opened my mind so much more.

The whole day was focussed on delivering a message; It was a fine example of how sustainable living can be achieved by all and how cost effective it can be. It was also interesting to learn about sustainable companies and communities. J. Atkinson & Sons funeral services who the Sunday Times Best Green Company award 2008 for efforts on reducing environmental impact delivered quite an intensive speech which I favoured above all.

After speaking with Alastair Fuad-Luke the founder of ‘slow’ design who delivered the Sustees event, Myself, Richard, Chantel and Jo decided to form as a group. The term 'co-design' was frequently used throughout the day; it is a method of working together to create purposeful outcome. With this in mind, we designed our joint business which we intend to develop throughout the Experimentation and Feasibility module. As Co-Designers we have decided to focus on sustainable urban redevelopment. Our intention is to emphasise that architecture does not have to look futuristic to be green, My intention is to demonstrate ways in which current buildings can be covertly transformed into eco builds buildings without the need for it to look 'green'.
